Since the demise of the original band in 1984, Mike's broadcasting career has gone from strength to strength - winning numerous awards for his shows on Capital Gold. He was advised not to go to "that London", being too Northern - so in typical Sweeney style he went and conquered the capital for 5 years before returning home from where he presented the weekday breakfast show until in May 2008 he launched the brand new station, 106.1 Rock Radio, presenting the drive-time show whilst juggling his other media commitments, writing and recording new Salford Jets material, playing live and most of all enjoying his family. Of the "new" Salford Jets, Mike has said: "I'm at a point where I don't have to do anything...the band works in 2008 because not only do we respect the legacy of the Jets, we're coming up with new songs and best of all - the live show is shit-hot!
AKA the keeper of the flame - Diccon's perseverance is the reason the band is around today. He lovingly transferred his collection of 8 track, 16 track and 1/2 inch masters onto CD, firstly selling the resulting 3 disc collection via the internet, and and then in a moment of inspiration making contact with Sanctuary Records - the result was MANCHESTER BOYS, and finally a proper recorded legacy for the band's ouput old & new.
Phil has been playing with Mike & Diccon for some 15 years now, and has been described by Mike as "the only drummer I've ever met who can fill Shakey Dave's boots". Having been around in the same loose musical family as the Jets whilst playing with The Out, Phil later went on to work with artistes as diverse as Gloria Gaynor and the Bay City Rollers before coming back to his roots.
Lancashire - based Alan comes to the band armed with an awesome guitar technique and great vocals, nailing the Jets sound from the first rehearsal. Alan can also be found plying his Lindsay Buckingham licks as a member of the hugely successful Rumours of Fleetwood Mac, regularly touring concertvenues around the world.
Our latest recruit, Phill brings great rhythm guitar and vocals to the band. As major fan of The Jam and The Who, he is "made up" to be working with the SJs. Phill is also a very accomplished studio engineer & producer and runs his own Studio, The Doghouse Studios, in Lancashire.
